Chelsea know they cannot afford to not beat Newcastle if they are to have any hope of Champions League football next year. The 1-1 draw with Huddersfield leaves Chelsea two points behind Liverpool in fourth, and the Merseyside club have a far superior goal difference, too.

Antonio Conte is almost certainly leaving after this game, regardless of the final outcome. But usurping Liverpool for fourth would be an excellent parting gift. Former Blues boss Rafa Benitez has done a brilliant job at Newcastle, but the season has soured somewhat in recent weeks. Newcastle have lost their last four games and are now level on points with three other sides, but tenth on goal difference.

Kenedy is ineligible against his parent club, and Newcastle will miss the influential Brazilian. They performed well against Spurs on Wednesday but came away with nothing, and given Chelsea need a win, it may be tough going at St James’ Park.Chelsea's last hope of securing a UEFA Champions League qualifying spot for next season rests on Sunday's Premier League curtain call away to Newcastle United, where Magpies manager Rafa Benitez will look to stop his old team taking fourth.

The fifth-placed Blues travel to St James' Park with two points between them and Liverpool in fourth, and three points are needed in the north-east if Antonio Conte's men are to have any chance of securing a top-four finish.

Benitez's side have lost their last four in succession, but Chelsea also need Liverpool to drop points in their home clash against Brighton & Hove Albion to have any chance at stealing in at the last minute.

Chelsea are already assured of a place in next season's UEFA Europa League, but they won't want to settle for a spot in Europe's secondary club contest while the slightest chance is there to make it to the big show.

Read on for all the latest team news ahead of Sunday's season-ending showcase, where Chelsea stand as one of the few top-flight teams with something substantial left to fight for. When your Champions League hopes hang by the thinnest of threads and you’re Chelsea Football Club, one of the last places you want to go when you absolutely need to win a match is raucous St. James’ Park. The Magpies are entirely too well supported and that place is a hoodoo to the things that we do.

In our last six trips, we’ve lost thrice, drawn twice and — gulp — won only once, a 3-0 beating back in 2011 with goals from Didier Drogba, Salomon Kalou and Daniel Sturridge. It doesn’t really seem to matter where they are in the table; against us, they’re Champions League material, and their players (where you at, Papiss Cissé?) turn into supermen.

So it might not do to take heart from the fact that they’re free of relegation fears, have nothing to play for and are basically on holiday — all factors that explain why they’ve lost four in a row. But don’t expect them to roll over for us. It just never seems to work that way.

We’re coming off a soul-crushing draw with a blue-and-white bus pragmatic Huddersfield Town, placing our European future in the hands of Brighton, who must win at Anfield. No doubt Eden Hazard will start this Sunday, and if I were a betting man I’d say that Gary Cahill and Olivier Giroud would as well. As well as a star of the Liverpool win, Tiémoué Bakayoko.

It’s last call in the Premier League, ladies and gentlemen. Drink it up, since the bar doesn’t open again until August!
